Ina Geerts

Ina Geerts (also known as INA) is a Belgian singer-songwriter based in Brussels. Her music brings us back to smoky clubs of the thirties. She writes songs, ballads and chansons in English and French and even in German.

Since her childhood she is busy with music. Through the years she developed herself the most in singing and writing. She plays the piano in a very basic way and she composes instinctively. There has to be a 'match' between the chords and the musicality of a text and the story that is told needs the right atmosphere. Besides her own texts she loves to use other writers material. This love for language comes also because of her work as an actress.

Together with trumpet player Luc van Lieshout (know from Tuxedomoon and Flat Earth Society (FES) she developed her music and they recorded their first album "GapTeeth" in 2010. He made the arrangements and the mixing. In 2014 they recorded a live EP "City foxes" under a blue moon sky in Paul Zahl's Saddle Up Studio at Ostend.

Live they perform as a full band with five musicians Luc van Lieshout (trumpet), Els Becu (piano), Tricky Clauwaert (drums), Hugo Antunes (double bass) and Stefaan Blancke (trombone). They got airplay at the BBC Radio 6 Tom Robinson show and he invited them to play his support act on a Belgian concert.

For the moment she is more concentrated on solo concerts with her piano and accordion together with singer-songwriter Eugène Roe. They do double bill concerts in bars and little clubs.

The song she sings is "Les Amants" and it was recorded at the art gallery Rossicontemporary in Uccle, Brussels. Owner Francesco Rossi and Ina are neighbours and this was a good occasion to use the bright space of Francesco's gallery.
